General Membership Meeting

April 19, 2014

  

The meeting was called to order by Terry, AE5RI, at 0803 hours. The location is the Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport, MS.

  

Terry led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

  

Cecil, K5DL, led the group in the prayer.

  

Ray, WQ5L, gave a report of the club’s W1AW/5 effort. The operators had to contend with jammers and pirates, through all of the issues, a good time was had by all.

  

Terry reminded the group that the Polish RTTY event would be held at Mikes, WM5DX, home. This will also co-inside with the club’s spring picnic. Charlie, WD5BJT, will send an email to the group as a reminder.

  

Charlie read the minutes of the March meeting. On a motion to accept the minutes by George, K5JZ, seconded by Cecil, the motion passed.

  

Ray gave the treasurers report. On a motion to accept the report by George, seconded by Cecil, the motion passed.

  

George announced the donation of the following items for the club’s use: a 68 foot aluminum vertical from DX Engineering, a 2 element 40 meter Cushcraft beam, an A3 Cushcraft beam, 2 Rohn 25G pointy top tower sections, two 4-position coax switches, and two rubber weather balloons.

  

George also provided a donation of $200.00 toward the cost of the DX Dinner. He also asked members to seek donations of door prized for the event.

  

Terry gave a report on the DX Dinner as follows: menu items for the DX Dinner. The Board made the following selections: Prime Rib, Foccaica Chicken, Pecan Crusted Snapper, green beans with almonds, Cajun roast potatoes, praline and cream drizzled cheese cake, and salad. A cash bar will be opened. Our guest speaker will be Bob Alphern, K4UUE. There may be more speakers as well. A dress code is required by the venue. The dinner will be held the first Saturday in December.

  

NEW BUSINESS:

  

Mike said the club he belongs to in London, England has given permission to our club to link to their newsletter. Ed and Ray would provide a link to the newsletter on the K5GDX web site.

  

Mike, as programs manager, told the group of a video on the internet regarding the manufacture of valves by the Mollard company. A link will be provided on the club web site.

  

Mike gave the QSL manager report.

  

Bob, WB8BIE, and Steve, presented the latest in VHF/UHF RDF equipment, the updated Little L-per was examined by all. The price is a bit steep, but the unit is packed with features. The CAP mobile Comms Van is in the parking lot for member inspection.

  

Jeff, N9OKV, said the county EOC is suffering from interference on 3.862Khz somewhere close by and needs help to locate and take care of the source.

  

Ed reports he has the tower bases prepped and ready for installation. He has constructed rebar cages with J-bolts. Unfortunately the ground is super saturated with water and no further work can proceed until the water evaporates and the ground hardens.

  

Jeff said the club can use his trailer to transport the equipment to dig the holes.

  

Terry, KF5BA, wished all a happy Easter and a happy Passover.

  

On a motion to adjourn by Bob, seconded by Jeff, the motion carried.
