General Membership Meeting

February 15, 2014

The meeting was called to order at 0808 hours by Terry, AE5RI. The location is the Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport, MS.

Terry led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Cecil, K5DL, led the group in prayer.

Charlie, WD5BJT, read the minutes of the January meeting with thanks to Ray, WQ5L, for acting as Secretary. On a motion to accept the minutes by Chris, K5MOZ, seconded by Cecil. Brief discussion was held. The minutes were accepted.

Ray gave the treasurers report. On a motion to accept the report by George, seconded by Cecil. Brief discussion was held. The report was accepted.

Terry reported on the BOD decision to accept donations for the Mellish Reef DXpedition, $100.00 plus donations for the Tromulen Island expedition, and the Lord Howe expedition. George suggested a $250.00 donation be made to Tromulen Island.

Charlie announced that George was the happiest man in the room because he worked the Amsterdam Island, FT5MZ, expedition on 160 meters. Loud accolades were given to him.

Terry asked for volunteers to head the 2014 ARRL Field Day effort. Ed, KA5VFU, Ray, and Terry, N5TF stepped up to co-chair the effort.

Charlie showed the group the IRS tax exempt paperwork package with hopes to get the packet finished and mailed out soon.

Chris asked about the tower base project. A second base was brought at the Capital City Hamfest last month and was in the club’s possession. A third tower base is needed, base locations need to be determined and holes dug with concrete poured.

New business:

Betty Jo, KB5CSQ, let the club know about a raffle for the SMYL group’s scholarship fund. Tickets were now on sale.

Jeff, N9OKV, gave a report on Mike Corey’s talk at the Capital City Hamfest ARRL forum. Mike reported that amateur radio in the USA would loose all frequency allocations above 2 GHZ with a guarantee that no further frequency losses would happen below 2 GHZ. ARES members need to educate themselves in the new digital modes because that is the future of ARES communications.

Ed requested a work party at Hooterville to start preparations for the CQ WW 160 SSB contest. The general consensus was to hold the work party immediately following today’s meeting.

Mike, WM5DX, gave a QSL committee report.

On a motion to adjourn by Cecil, seconded by Chris, brief discussion was held. The meeting was adjourned.

Respectfully Submitted,

Charlie Otnott
