2012 Club Meeting Minutes

General Membership Meeting

November 17, 2012

 

The meeting was called to order by Travis, K5QJ, at 0804 hours. The location is the Garden Park Hospital in Gulfport, MS.

Travis led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Ed, KA5VFU, led the group in prayer.

Guests: Jerry, N5UCF, Tristin Swift 

Bill, NA5DX, returned the DX Hawg award plaque to the BOD. The plaque is in good condition.

Travis announced the first annual Junque in da Trunk to be held today after the general membership meeting. The location is the Hooterville contest station location. Ed provided details. 

George, K5JZ, announced he had purchased a digital projection screen. He then donated the screen to the club. On a motion to reimburse George for the cost of the screen by Ed, seconded by Joe, K5JB, discussion was held. On a motion to table the original motion by Cecil, K5DL, seconded by Chris, K5MOZ,             brief discussion was held. The motion passed.

Ray, WQ5L, gave the treasurer’s report. On a motion to accept the report by Steve, KC5VQR, seconded by Ed, brief discussion was held. The motion passed. 

Ray gave a rundown of upcoming contests.

Ed, reported the cost of helium has skyrocketed. He stated it would be cost prohibitive to fly the balloon for the upcoming 160 meter contests. 

Ray reported the results of the joint 2012 Field Day operation. The combined club effort between GSDXA and the Magnolia DX Assn resulted in 8,872 points, 2,325 QSOs, 18 participants. The results are #1 in Mississippi for 3A, #1 in Delta Division for 3A, #12 nation-wide for 3A.

Old Business

Ed and George gave a run down on the DX dinner. Jerry, N5UCF, suggested a number of items to be raffled at the DX dinner. A list will be given to the BOD for consideration. The IC-7600 will be raffled during the DX dinner. The raffle for the radio will be recorded and posted on the clubs’ web site. The winner will be notified by telephone immediately after the winning ticket is verified. On a motion to have the BOD pick three items to be raffled at the DX dinner by Ed, seconded by George, brief discussion was held. The motion passed. Travis solicited nominations for Member/DXer of the year. Charlie advised the club membership to get their logs submitted for the DX Hawg award. Jerry obtained two raffle drums for the DX dinner. George suggested the drawing for the IC-7600 be video recorded and made available on the web site. Bill and Ray will run the door. 

Ed reported that the club tee shirts are in production and should be ready for this Monday.

New Business

Ed withdrew his motion to reimburse George the cost of the projector screen. On a motion to return the money budgeted to purchase a projector screen back into the budget by George, seconded by Cecil, brief discussion was held. The motion passed. 

Ed announced that Joe has donated an admission ticket to the DX dinner. Accolades to Dr. Butler for his donation was given by all.

Charlie reminded the membership that if there was someone who was in need and could not afford the cost of a DX dinner ticket to discreetly contact a BOD member for consideration. 

Terry reminded members to get their nominations for Member and DXer of the year to the BOD.

On a motion to adjourn by George, seconded by Bob, WB8BIE, extremely brief discussion was held. The motion passed.
